How to perform a thorough uninstall of System Mechanic Professional

Overview

A thorough uninstall is a manual removal of all registry data and other application-related information that may be left on the system following an automatic uninstall. This process may occasionally be required when troubleshooting a corrupt installation or reinstalling a related product.

Step-by-step Instructions

Close all related components

Before beginning the uninstall process, right-click the corresponding icons located within the Windows system tray to close iolo AntiVirus, iolo Firewall, System Mechanic Popup Blocker, System Guard, DriveSense, System Health alerts, and any scheduled maintenance.

Uninstall System Mechanic Professional

  1. Open the Control Panel by clicking:
    • Start>Control Panel
      or
    • Start>Settings>Control Panel
  2. Open Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Locate and select the entry entitled iolo technologies System Mechanic Professional
  4. Click the entry’s corresponding Change/Remove button.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall, restarting the computer as prompted.

Remove the System Mechanic Professional registry entries

WARNING: Using the Windows Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems and may result in an inoperable operating system. Use Registry Editor at your own risk and discretion.

  1. Click the Windows Start button.
  2. Select Run.
  3. Type regedit in the Open field.
  4. Click OK.
  5. On the left-hand side, expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER by clicking the + symbol next to the entry.
  6. Expand Software.
  7. Expand the iolo folder.
  8. Navigate to the System Mechanic Professional folder.
  9. Right-click on the System Mechanic Professional folder and select Delete.
  10. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  11. On the left-hand side, expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE by clicking the + symbol next to the entry.
  12. Expand Software.
  13. Expand the iolo folder.
  14. Navigate to the System Mechanic Professional folder.
  15. Right-click on the System Mechanic Professional folder and select Delete.
  16. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  17. Close the Registry Editor.
  18. Click Start>My Computer and then navigate to your Local Disk (usually the C: drive) then Program Files\iolo\System Mechanic Professional
  19. Right-click on the System Mechanic Professional folder and select Delete.
  20. Click Yes to confirm the deletion.

Remove residual antivirus files
  1. Right-click the task bar located at the bottom of your desktop and select Task Manager.
  2. From the Windows Task Manager select the Processes tab.
  3. Locate and click on the process named Dvpapi.dll to highlight it.
  4. Click the End Process button, then click Yes to confirm.
  5. Navigate to C:\program files\common files and right-click the folder named Authentium.
  6. Click Delete, then click Yes to confirm.
  7. Download and install the Microsoft cleanup utility. You can download this file from Microsoft’s web site at: http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe
  8. Run the utility by clicking Start>All Programs>Windows Installer Clean Up.
  9. Highlight Authentium Antivirus SDK and click Remove. Click OK to confirm.
  10. Close all open windows and restart the computer.
