Upon installation, iolo Personal Firewall is enabled and its icon sits in your system tray. The icon:
Changes color to indicate various states of the firewall, so that you can easily see the status of your security.
Offers menu options, so that you can quickly access and change firewall settings.
When the firewall is enabled (and no Zones are locked), the icon is white. (More on Zones.)
When the firewall is disabled (and no Zones are locked), the icon is red.
When one or both Zones are locked, the icon is yellow. The firewall may be enabled or disabled.
When the firewall blocks a communication or displays a prompt , the icon briefly flashes red and then returns to its original state.
When you click on the iolo Personal Firewall icon, it opens a menu with options for opening the firewall's Home page, enabling/disabling the firewall's functionality, removing the icon from your system tray, or purchasing a license (for evaluation users).
Each menu option is listed below (all menu options won't display for all users). Click on a menu name to view more information.
Open iolo Personal Firewall opens the Home page.
Click Open iolo Personal Firewall to open the Home page. This window allows you to view and configure firewall settings, view event history, update software, and get help using the firewall.

Disable iolo Personal Firewall turns off the firewall.
This option is available when the firewall is enabled.
Click Disable iolo Personal Firewall to turn off the firewall and have no restrictions on all incoming and outgoing communication.
You can still open the firewall application and change configuration settings.
Note: Disabling the firewall makes your computer vulnerable to attack.
Enable iolo Personal Firewall turns on the firewall.
This option is available when the firewall is disabled.
Click Enable iolo Personal Firewall to enable the firewall and put its protection into effect.
Shut down iolo Personal Firewall disables the firewall and removes its icon from system tray.
Click Shut down iolo Personal Firewall to both disable the firewall (as described above) and remove the icon from your system tray.
Unlike disabling, when the firewall is shut down, you cannot access the functions offered by the icon, which includes opening the Home page to configure settings.
When selected, a confirmation window displays; click Yes to continue. To have the firewall enable itself the next time you start or restart your computer, select the Start iolo Personal Firewall when my computer starts check box.
Note: Shutting down the firewall makes your computer vulnerable to attack.

How to re-start the iolo Personal Firewall once it is shut down
You can restart the firewall in several ways:
Start the firewall from the Windows Start menu, in the iolo Personal Firewall program group you set during installation. (The default installation location is Start > Programs > iolo Personal Firewall > Start iolo Personal Firewall.)
If you elected to create a desktop icon during installation, double-click on the iolo Personal Firewall icon.
If you selected the Start iolo Personal Firewall when my computer starts check box when you shut the firewall down, the firewall will restart the next time you start or restart your computer.
Purchase iolo Personal Firewall allows evaluation users to process a payment for a licensed copy of iolo Personal Firewall.
This option only displays for evaluation customers.
Click Purchase iolo Personal Firewall to process a payment through iolo's secure online ordering system. With the purchase of a license, you can have permanent use of iolo Personal Firewall in minutes.
