Communication Blocked (Port Closed Notice)

Displays when:

A Communication Blocked window displays when a program is attempting Internet communication through a blocked port.

Instructions:

The window displays to inform you that a port is blocked, and provides information about the program and its communication attempt. The window also gives you the option of opening the port.

Click OK to close the window or to close the current alert*.

* Note: Where several alerts show (for instance, various IP addresses are involved in a single communication attempt), you can click the Previous and Next arrows to view each of the alerts.

Where there is more than one alert, click OK to close the current alert or click Close all alerts to close the window.

How do I turn off all "Communication Blocked" notices?

You can turn off informational notices in one of two ways:

Note: To turn notices back on, select the Display informational firewall notices check box on the Settingswindow.

To view program information

Click Show details to show information about the program and its communication attempt. The following displays:

Click the "Allow" link in this section to allow access for that port. The port will open and the settings for the Zone will update to allow access for the current direction and protocol. See "To open the port to communication" below for more information.

To open the port to communication

Click Show details and then in the Port Number section, click the link to allow access for that port. The text of the link has the direction and the protocol; for example, "Allow outgoing UDP access" or "Allow incoming TCP access". The next communication through that port will be allowed (the current attempt has already been blocked).

I see a "Confirm" window:

If you are using one of the set security levels for the Zone (Low, Medium, or High), the firewall will need to change the security to the Custom level, so that it can include these customized port settings.

A Confirm window will display giving you the option of making this update; click OK to continue. The firewall will change the security of the Zone to Custom and will add the port setting, but all other settings will be the same as the security level you had previously: Low, Medium, or High.

To turn off all notices

Select the Don't show these messages anymore check box to turn off future notices.

Note: Selecting this option turns of all notices, not just the notices for the current program or port.
