A program policy is a security control that applies to a specific program or application. Program policies let you give individual programs their own set of instructions on how they can communicate over the Internet or a network.
If the associated Zone allows access, then iolo Personal Firewall checks to see if an applicable program policy exists. This means that one program can have different permissions depending on whether a Trusted Zone or an Internet Zone location is involved.
Using program policies, you can:
Set up the firewall to allow, block, or prompt for the following communication attempts by a program:
– Outgoing attempt from your computer to a remote location that is in the Internet Zone.
– Outgoing attempt from your computer to a remote location that is in the Trusted Zone.
– Incoming attempt from a remote location in the Internet Zone to your computer.
– Incoming attempt from a remote location in the Trusted Zone to your computer.
Have an alert display when a program attempting access has been altered. This provides a defense against malware that attempts to mimic trusted applications.
Have the program policy apply even if the Zone is locked.

The Program Policies pane shows the number of policies that you have and contains the Manage policies button.
As a default, no program policies exist. All policies are created and configured by you, either on the Manage Program Policies window or through selections made on Allow Access? prompt windows.
To get started, click Manage policies to open the Manage Program Policies window. You can create, view, and edit policies from this window.
