Most e-mail applications treat read and unread e-mail messages differently to distinguish them. This can include marking unread messages with bold text or red text or placing unread messages in a different folder.

 

As a default, Search and Recover recovers e-mail messages as Unread.

 

To change how Search and Recover marks recovered e-mail messages, select one of the following from the When an e-mail message is recovered list:

• Mark message as Unread. (This is the default selection.)

• Mark message as Read.

• Keep original read status.

As a default, a Finished message displays after e-mail messages are recovered, to confirm the recovery.

 

To change the display of this message, select or clear the Notify when recovery is complete check box:

• To have the Finished message not display after messages are recovered, clear the check box.

• To have the Finished message display after messages are recovered, select the check box.

Most e-mail programs provide tools to either save old messages to an archive or compact folders to conserve disk space. However, there is a greater chance of e-mail recovery if you turn off automatic archiving/compacting features. These tools interfere with the ability of Search and Recover to find deleted e-mail messages.

 

As a default, the check boxes for Configure {E-mail program name} for best chance of message recovery reflect the existing setting in your e-mail program.

 

For example, if your Outlook program has the automatic archiving turned off, then as a default, the check box is selected. If your Thunderbird program currently has the automatic compacting turned on, then as a default, the check box is cleared.

• To disable automatic archiving/compacting and increase your chance of recovering e-mail messages, select the check box.

• To enable automatic archiving/compacting, clear the check box.
