This topic applies to the Recover Deleted Files, Recover Deleted Pictures and Movies, and Recover Deleted Songs and Sounds wizards.

The Filter Results menu on the Search Results screen allows you to narrow results and display only those files that meet your criteria.

The menu options – Show Specific File Types, Custom (and Edit custom filter), and Show Everything – are described below.

Show Specific File Types

The Show Specific File Types option allows you to filter results based on a general file type. You can select one or more of these file types.

  1. From the Filter Results menu, click Show Specific File Types and then click the desired file type: Documents; Pictures and Photos; Movies; Songs and Sounds; Programs and Applications; or Internet Files. (Click each listed file type to display a list of its applicable file extensions.)

  2. After selecting a file type, the menu closes and the list refreshes, displaying only those files of the selected file type.

  1. If you want to:

From the Filter Results menu:

  • Select more than one file type

Click Show Specific File Types and click the desired file type as you did in step 1.

Because the menu closes when you make a selection, open the menu again for every file type you want to select.

  • Verify which file types you've applied as filters

Click Show Specific File Types.

A check mark displays next to all of the selected file types.

  • Remove a file type

Click Show Specific File Types and click the file type again.

The list automatically updates with that filtering option removed.

  • Remove ALL filters

Click Show Everything (described below).

The Custom / Edit Custom Filter options allow you to filter results based on specific file information, such as the file name or the date the file was last modified. You can select one or more of these criteria.

  1. From the Filter Results menu, click Custom. The Filter Search Results window opens.

  2. Enter criteria in one or more of the Custom options:

  1. When you're finished making selections, click Apply Filter. The window closes and the list refreshes, displaying only those files that match your customized filters.

The Edit custom filter menu option now also appears under the Filter Results menu, allowing you to change custom options.

  1. If you want to:

From the Filter Results menu:

  • Change, add to, or verify the custom filters you've applied

Click Edit custom filter (rather than Custom).

The Filter Search Results window opens, displaying the options you previously set. You can change settings as described in step 2. To remove an option, clear its check box.

  • Remove ALL filters

Click Show Everything (described below).
