This topic applies to the Recover Deleted Files, Recover Deleted Pictures and Movies, and Recover Deleted Songs and Sounds wizards. |
The View menu on the Search Results screen allows you to change how found files are displayed.
With the Details option, you can view detailed file information.
With the Media option, you can preview the contents of certain files.
Both views allow you to filter results, and recover and terminate files.
The Details view is a tabular listing of files that provides detailed file information.
From the View menu, click Details. A list of the found (or filtered) files display. Columns are resizable, sortable, and movable.
The following information displays for each file:
Good. A green bullet and Good prognosis indicate that all of the original file clusters are intact. Full recovery is probable.
Fair. A yellow bullet and Fair prognosis indicate that Search and Recover cannot determine if all of the clusters containing the items are still attached. Full recovery might occur.
Poor. A red bullet and Poor prognosis indicate that some of the original clusters are no longer attached to the file. Full recovery is unlikely.
Once you recover a file, a green plus sign (+) displays over the Prognosis bullet:
![]()
Folder: The directory and folder that the deleted file is currently in.
Type: Description of the file type.
Size: The size of the file.
For a selected file (the row will be highlighted in blue), the left pane displays the last modified date (which does not display in the column listing), as well as the file name, type, and size.
The Media view allows you to preview the contents of certain files. This can be helpful if you want to verify a file before you recover or terminate it.
Note: Your computer must be running Windows Media Player 6.4 or later (9 Series or later is recommended) to preview files.
From the View menu, click Media. The left side of the screen displays a large icon with the file name for each found (or filtered) file.
The types of files that you can preview are:
HTML documents (.htm and .html)
Text documents (.txt)
Click on the icon (it will be highlighted in blue) in the left pane.
The file will either automatically display in the Viewer on the right side of the screen or you can click Generate preview to display it. (It may take a few moments for larger images to preview.) The different file types display as follows:
HTML documents, text documents, and pictures and photos display in the viewer.
Songs and sounds display a navigation toolbar that allows you to replay, pause, stop, move forward and back, mute, and control volume.
Movies display in a small viewer with a navigation toolbar that allows you to replay, pause, stop, move forward and back, mute, and control volume.
Other files types do not display in the viewer. These files can still be recovered and terminated, as described in the next step #3.
Note: The Media Preview tab on the Search and Recover Options window allows you to change settings related to automatic previewing.
The toolbar at the bottom of the viewer allows you to:
Recover a file: Click the green plus (+) symbol. For more information, see the Recover Files topic.
Terminate a file: Click the red (X) symbol. For more information, see the Terminate Files topic.
