iolo technologies Donates 2,000 Copies of Award-winning System Mechanic and DriveScrubber Software to L.A. SHARES

iolo technologies, the worldwide PC tune-up company, announced today a donation of more than 2,000 copies of System Mechanic, the #1 best-selling PC tune-up product, and DriveScrubber, best-selling secure data removal software, to L.A. SHARES.

Los Angeles, CA – May 12, 2009 – iolo technologies, the worldwide PC tune-up company, announced today a donation of more than 2,000 copies of System Mechanic, the #1 best-selling PC tune-up product, and DriveScrubber, best-selling secure data removal software, to L.A. SHARES. L.A. SHARES is a non-profit materials reuse program, which accepts donations from the local business community and redistributes them to non-profits and schools throughout Los Angeles County.

“With this donation from iolo technologies, L.A. SHARES will be able to increase the numbers of donations at our facility, by assuring donors that their computer history and personal data will be securely deleted with iolo’s award-winning data removal product,” said Bert Ball, executive director at L.A. SHARES. “Our donation recipients will also benefit by being able to extend the life of the computers they receive or already have with iolo’s System Mechanic PC tune-up software.”

System Mechanic, iolo’s flagship product, has already been used by more than 22 million users to significantly extend their PCs lifespan and make them faster and more energy-efficient. DriveScrubber, another of iolo’s award-winning products and part of the all-encompassing System Mechanic Professional suite, securely removes all personal or sensitive information from a hard drive by overwriting data permanently, beyond any possible recovery methods. It can even be set up to remove all the personal files, leaving the operating system and all useful programs intact, thus being a perfect preparation for any computer before it is sold, donated, recycled or reassigned.

iolo technologies has started a wide-ranging green campaign last fall in the hopes of lowering the number of discarded and forgotten computers, currently estimated at more than 500 million, 82 percent of which were dumped after only 30 months of use. The company’s goal is to contribute to a significant extension of computers’ useful life with System Mechanic and to encourage PC donations of those computers deemed too old for corporate/household use with DriveScrubber.

“Since 1991, L.A. SHARES has worked with thousands of local companies to give away more than $80,000,000 worth of goods and materials to around 2,500 organizations throughout Los Angeles County,” said JJ Schoch, VP of marketing at iolo technologies. “We are excited iolo’s products can help our local community and such a noble cause.”
