iolo technologies’ DriveScrubber® Achieves Number One Ranking Among Data Removal Utilities

NPD report shows DriveScrubber as the top-selling product in its class

September 12, 2006—iolo technologies announced today that DriveScrubber®, its well-known software utility that securely erases hard drives, outsold all other similar products in the month of July, as reported by The NPD Group. The report rankings were based on the total revenue generated from data removal products in the U.S. retail channel.

In addition to moving up 52 spots on the NPD listing for all utility software, DriveScrubber moved into the top position in its own category. According to Katharine Coble, iolo Director of Channel Sales, “This report indicates that consumers are recognizing the need to protect themselves and prevent their personal data from falling into the wrong hands, and they are specifically seeking out iolo’s solution due to its reputation for creating high-quality products.”

A recent M.I.T. study showed that 74% of hard drives sold or given away contain data that can be easily recovered and read – and 36% of those hard drives had been reformatted. The DriveScrubber software alleviates this danger by securely wiping all data from any hard or floppy drive, regardless of its file format or operating system. Using a drive erase utility such as DriveScrubber is the only way to ensure that sensitive information cannot be recovered when recycling, selling, or donating computers.

DriveScrubber offers various levels of data removal, ranging from a quick one-pass method that protects against basic data recovery tools, to more sophisticated methods that exceed U.S. Department of Defense standards and protect against advanced electron-microscopy recovery techniques. DriveScrubber is available at most software retailers or can be ordered directly at www.iolo.com. It requires a PC running Windows 98 or later. Press evaluation copies are available upon request.
