Overview of the Options window
On the General tab, you can control the display of program tips and repair confirmation prompts, set your type of Internet connection, and control whether System Mechanic monitors your PC for Internet connection problems.
By default, System Mechanic displays a confirmation prompt when you run repairs and optimizations from the Dashboard, the iolo PC Health Status Gadget, and the System Mechanic Jump List. The Repair Options section allows you to control the display of these prompts.
To turn of the prompts, clear the Prompt me before performing repairs and optimizations check box; select the check box to turn the prompts back on.
Note: You can also turn off prompts by selecting the "Do not show this prompt again" check box directly on the message itself.
By default, System Mechanic displays tips and additional information that you may find useful when performing certain functions.
To turn off the display of these tips, clear the Show tips check box; select the check box to turn the tips back on.
Specifying the correct Internet connection type helps System Mechanic provide you the best optimizations. If you are unsure of your connection type, ask your Internet Service Provider.
Broadband (cable, DSL, satellite, ISDN, T1, etc.). LAN, Cable, DSL, Satellite, ISDN, T1, or Wireless or other high speed connection.
Broadband over PPPoE. Cable, DSL or Satellite, or Wireless running PPPoE. If your connection is running PPPoE, you likely use a separate program to log on to the Internet. If you are unsure of this setting, check with your Internet service provider.
Dial-up. A modem connection.
By default, your PC is monitored for Internet connection problems so that ActiveCare can automatically repair the connection if it breaks.
Monitor my PC for Internet connection problems. Select the check box if you have the ActiveCare option Automatically repair broken Internet connection enabled and want System Mechanic to detect problems with your Internet connection. Clear the check box if you do not want System Mechanic to detect Internet connection problems and want the ActiveCare option to be disabled.
Note: With this option enabled, Internet activity is NOT monitored; System Mechanic only monitors whether the Internet connection is working properly.
