Overview of Fix Security Vulnerabilities wizard
On the last screen, the search (or search and repair) is being run. You can cancel processing, if desired.
When the processing is completed or cancelled, the screen will display the final results. The display depends on which mode you selected; click a mode below for further instruction.
Quick Security Optimization OR Complete Security Optimization
The screen displays all the tests that were run and shows the status for each.
Passed. No problems detected.
Failed. Problems detected. Depending on the options you selected, these items either could not be automatically repaired or are being displayed to you to make desired repairs on demand.
Repaired. Problem was repaired. This will display if you elected to have System Mechanic make automatic repairs.
Not tested. Test was not run based on selected options.
To filter results, you can clear or select one of the following options from the View menu: Passed, Failed, Repaired, and Untested. As a default, all items are selected. Click on a selection to clear it and filter it out of the display (the check mark will no longer display).
To run repairs (available if you elected to not use automatic repairs)
On the row for the problem and click the Repair link; or
Click Fix All to repair all detected problems that were not repaired.
When you are finished, you can do one of the following:
Click Perform another Security Optimization to return to the first screen of the wizard.
Click Exit on the bottom of the screen to return to the Home page.
Click the Close icon (X) at the top of the screen to close System Mechanic.
Custom inspection and report OR Repair items manually (from Problem Task List)
With these modes, the items System Mechanic detected as flaws are displayed, and then you designate which items you want to repair.
Each detected problem displays the following:
Problem. Short name for the problem.
Vulnerability. Information about the potential risk the problem poses.
Threat Level. A graphic representation of the threat level.
Suggestion. Click the link to access additional information about the suggested repair.
To view Help topics specific to the issue, select the problem and either click the More Info link, or from the right-click menu, click Learn more about selected.
Using the Sort menu, you can sort by Problem name, Problem threat level, and Problem repair status.
You can designate the problems you want to work with in one of several ways:
Click on the one or more rows to select them. You can select multiple items you normally would in Windows, using the CTRL and SHIFT keys.
Select the one or more check boxes next to each item.
Make one of the following selections from the right-click menu, or from the Tools menu:
Select all. Selects all rows.
Deselect all. Clears all rows from selection.
Invert selection. Where a row is selected , this option clears them; and where a row is not selected, this option selects them.
Check all. Selects all check boxes.
Uncheck all. Clear all check boxes.
Invert checked. Where a check box is selected, this option clears them; and where a check box is cleared, this option selects them.
There are several ways to run repairs.
With the desired items selected or checked, you can click one of the below Repair menu options:
Repair selected. Repairs all selected problems.
Repair checked. Repairs all checked problems.
You can run individual repairs by clicking the Repair link on the desired row.
You can repair an entire group by clicking the Repair Group link.
You can "ignore" detected flaws that you do not consider to be a problem, so that System Mechanic does not flag them as errors in the future.
With an entry selected, either right-click on it and click Ignore Selected, or click Options then Ignore. Both offer the following menu options:
This session. Ignores the problem during the current System Mechanic session. The next time you open System Mechanic, the problem will no longer be considered ignored.
Permanently. Ignore the problem permanently (unless and until you clear Ignore lists.)
To remove an "ignore" designation for a specific entry, click Options and then click Unignore problem.
To remove all "ignore" designations, from the Tools menu, click Clear Ignore Lists.
Note: You can later clear problems from the Ignore List on the custom Options tab or the Automatic Optimization and Repair Options window.
When you are finished, you can do one of the following:
Click Exit on the bottom of the screen to return to the Home page.
Click the Close icon (X) at the top of the screen to close System Mechanic.
