Overview of Find Duplicate Files wizard
The duplicate files detected will display. You decide which files, if any, you want to remove.
Results are grouped into duplicate pools. A duplicate pool represents the one file that has one more duplicates.
Click on the plus sign to expand a pool and view each of the files in the pool. To expand all items, from the Tools menu, click Expand all. (Click Collapse all to close all the pools.)
The following Tools menu options allow you to view and access information related to each item.
Open containing folder. Opens a Windows Explorer window, showing the folder that contains the file.
Properties. Opens a standard Properties window that shows file's properties.
You can sort results by various attributes: Name, size, type, location, version, and the dates created, modified, and accessed.
Click Sort by and choose the desired menu option.
To select how you want to handle duplicate files when you remove them: From the Tools menu, click Removal method and then click one of the following:
Delete. Delete the file. (It will not be in the Recycle Bin.)
Move to Recycle Bin. Send the file to the Windows Recycle Bin.
To remove a duplicate: Select the file you want to work with. From the Tools menu, click Remove and then click one of the following:
Selected file. Select this option if you have selected the file you want to remove.
Keep selected and remove all other items in pool. Select this option if you have selected the file you want to keep.
If a duplicate pool, file, or folder that you would like to keep has been detected as a duplicate, you can exclude it from later runs of the wizard.
To exclude a file from later searches, select the file and from the Exclude menu, click Selected file from future searches.
To exclude a folder from later searches, select the folder and from the Exclude menu, click Selected folder from future searches.
To exclude an entire duplicate pool from later searches, select the pool and from the Exclude menu, click Selected duplicate pool from future searches.
To clear any exclusions you set, click Reset all exclusions from the Exclude menu.
Once you are finished, you can exit the wizard or run another search.
Click New Search to run another search.
Click Exit on the bottom of the screen to return to the Home page.
Click the Close icon (X) at the top of the screen to close System Mechanic.
