Overview of Program Accelerator
On the second screen, the following options are available:
Delete junk files before re-aligning programs. Select this check box to have System Mechanic run the PC Cleanup wizard prior to optimization. This eliminates useless and unneeded files from being realigned, which can speed up the optimization process.
Automatically defragment locked files next time Windows starts. Select this check box to have System Mechanic automatically defragment locked files the next time you start or restart your computer.
Shut down my computer automatically after optimization finishes. If you wish to leave your PC for an extended period of time and want the PC or System Mechanic to shut down, click More Options and select one of the following:
Restart my computer automatically after optimization finishes
Shut down my computer automatically after optimization finishes (the option that displays by default)
Shut down System Mechanic automatically after optimization finishes
Once you click on an option from the More Options list, the field name will update to match your selection.
Click Show Advanced options to view or change the following:
Consolidate free space during optimization (optimization may take significantly longer to complete). Select the check box to have System Mechanic consolidate free space on the drive during optimization.
To re-align a file without fragmenting it, Program Accelerator needs a block of free space large enough to hold the entire file. Selecting this option consolidates free space to create as much contiguous space as possible. Because the number of files moved is greatly increased, this option requires significantly more processing, but it allows large files that would normally be unmovable to be re-aligned.
Note: The consolidation of free space can take a long time depending on the size and fragmentation of the drive and the speed of your PC.
When you are ready to proceed, click Next to run the optimization.
