Have you ever wanted to reorder items in your Windows Start menu? Change the default folder locations that Windows uses? Rather than poring through dozens of complicated setup screens, you can use one System Mechanic window to adjust these and many more Windows settings. Adapting the default settings in Windows can result in faster and more intuitive access that is perfectly suited to your work style.

System Mechanic’s Customize Advanced Windows Settings tool provides an easy way to tweak and fine-tune a wide range of settings on your PC. It allows you to customize the appearance and behavior of over 100 Windows features, all from one screen. Many of these settings are ‘hidden’ and cannot be readily changed without this tool.

TO ACCESS: From the Individual Tools pane, select the Manage System Configuration category and then click Start next to Customize Advanced Windows Settings. Simply select from one of the intuitive categories and all of its configurable options will display. Detailed on-screen explanations are provided for each option.

TIP: Explore all of the tools in the Manage System Configuration category. Both power users and computer novices who want to learn more about their PCs will find these functions a simple way to configure various internal settings to their liking.

You can:

  • Configure Windows Startup: Various programs and services are set to open automatically when Windows starts. Use the Configure Windows Startup window to manage and control all of these startup items.
  • Manage Running Programs: Unnecessary processes overburden system resources and memory. Use the Manage Running Programs window to control running processes for performance and stability gains.
  • Configure Advanced Internet Settings: You can modify advanced network settings and experiment with different configurations, to achieve the most efficient internet speeds.
  • Relocate Installed Programs: Incomplete relocations can cause software conflicts and result in the program being unusable. The Relocate Installed Programs wizard finds, moves, and updates all program elements for a seamless and thorough relocation.
  • Find Duplicate Files: In addition to causing confusion, duplicate files unnecessarily take up drive space and can cause software conflicts. Use the Find Duplicate Files wizard to view a list of duplicate files and delete the files you don’t want.
  • Personalize Windows settings: Windows 7 (and above) users can gain quick and easy access to most system settings and options—from backing up your documents to changing your desktop background. System Mechanic’s convenient Super Control Panel, included in System Mechanic 10.5 and over, makes it easier than ever to personalize your Windows settings by putting them together all in one place. To access Super Control Panel, click on Customize Advanced Windows Settings (System Customizer) in the Manage System Configuration category. Click the dropdown menu next to the field marked Administrative, and when the menu expands you will see the option to open up the Super Control Panel.
