When files and folders become highly fragmented, computer performance is significantly slowed. Regular defragmentation helps you maintain system performance and prevent data corruption.
The Configure Right-Click Defragmentation feature allows you to quickly defragment files and folders on-demand, and can be useful for maintaining your large or frequently accessed data.
Select the Right-Click Menu Defragmentation check box to enable the feature and add "Defragment" to your right-click menu. Clear the check box to disable it.
When enabled, the ability to defragment files and folders is integrated into your Windows operating system. System Mechanic does not need to be open to use this feature.
In Windows (such as through Windows Explorer), right-click on the folder or file you want to defragment. You can also select multiple files or folders as you normally would using the CTRL and SHIFT keys, and then right-click.
Click Defragment from the right-click menu.
A Confirmation message displays to confirm that you wish to defragment. Click Yes to continue.
A progress window displays, showing the progress of the fragmentation. You can click Hide to close the window or click Cancel to stop the process.
Note: Defragment is available in your right-click menu when accessing Windows operating system functions, such as Windows Explorer or icons on your desktop. A Defragment menu will not display when you right-click inside of an application.
