From the Individual Tools pane, click Maximize Performance and then click Start next to Configure Boot-Time Defragmentation.
The Configure Boot-Time Defragmentation window allows you to specify files and folders that you want defragmented prior to Windows loading.
Note: This feature is only available for computers running Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows Vista.
When files and folders become highly fragmented, computer performance is significantly slowed. Regular defragmentation helps you maintain system performance and prevent data corruption.
For the best results, defragment your frequently used files at boot-time; this runs the defragmentation prior to other programs accessing the files or otherwise hindering the process. Further, certain frequently used system files can only be defragmented before Windows is loaded.
The Configure Boot-Time Defragmentation window comprises two tabs. Click a tab name below for more information:
Custom List. Enter the files that you specify.
System Files. Select from a list of Windows system files.
Any designated files will be defragmented the next time you start or restart your computer.
Prior to Windows loading, you will see an informational message indicating that defragmenting is in progress. When the defragmentation is complete, Windows will continue to load as it normally does.
