As a default, the check box is selected and real-time protection is in effect.

Clear the check box to turn off real-time protection. Select the check box to turn it back on.

Note: Virus protection is not in effect with real-time protection is disabled.

You can click Change and then select one or more of the below actions:  

• Rename. Rename the file to end in INFECTED.

• Quarantine. Quarantine the file. (More on quarantines.)

• Delete. Delete the file.

The first action on the list is the primary action and it represents how you want infected files to be handled. Any other remaining actions will act as backup.

• To remove an action from the list, select it and click Remove. (There must be at least one action.)

• To add an action back onto the list, click Add and then select it from the drop-down list.

Select the check box to scan files that are stored in archives. Common archive types include ZIP, CAB, ARJ, TAR, and others.

With the check box selected, the Archive recursion levels field displays (see below).

With the "Scan archives (e.g., .zip, .cab, .arj)" check box selected, nested archives are also unpacked and scanned. You can designate the number of nested levels to scan in the Archive recursion levels field.

The default number of levels that are scanned is 5. You can enter from 1 to 99. Keeping the limit in the lower range (less than 10) can optimize processing speed.

A packed executable is a compressed executable file. It includes the decompression code needed to run the executable. These are typically used to reduce file size, but packed executables also can be used to hide malware from scans.

Select the check box to include packed executables in scanning; clear it to exclude packed executables files.

You may wish to exclude certain folders from scanning.

Click Change to make changes or view existing exclusions.

• To add a folder to the exclusion list, click Add. A standard browse window opens. Navigate to the desired folder and then click OK.

• To remove a folder from the list, click Remove.

When you are finished with your changes, click Done.

Clear the check box if you do not want System Shield to perform any actions with detected macro variants.
