The screen displays all the tests that were run and shows the status for each.

• Passed. No problems detected.

• Failed. Problems detected. Depending on the options you selected, these items either could not be automatically repaired or are being displayed to you to make desired repairs on demand.

• Repaired. Problem was repaired. This will display if you elected to have System Mechanic make automatic repairs.

• Not tested. Test was not run based on selected options.

 

To filter results, you can clear or select one of the following options from the View menu: Passed, Failed, Repaired, and Untested. As a default, all items are selected. Click on a selection to clear it and filter it out of the display (the check mark will no longer display).

Repair

To repair any detected problems that were not repaired, click Fix All.

With these modes, the items System Mechanic detected as errors are displayed, and then you designate which items you want to repair.

View information

You can view information about the detected problems in one of two modes. From the Tools menu,  select a mode:

• Standard mode displays the registry location of the problem, a diagnosis, and a suggested repair. This the default selection and the recommended mode for most users.

• Expert mode displays the registry location of the problem, a diagnosis, and a suggested repair, along with links that allow you to make changes in the Registry Editor. Use Expert mode and make changes only if you know what you are doing.

Make selections

You can designate the registry problems you want to work with in one of several ways:

• Click on a row to  select  it.

• Select the one or more check boxes next to each item.

• Make one of the following selections from the Tools menu:

• Select none. Clear all check boxes.

• Select all. Selects all rows.

• Invert selection. Where a repair group is selected, this option clears them, and where a repair group is not selected, this option selects them.

Repair

There are several ways to run repairs. With the desired item(s) selected or checked, you can click one of the below Repair menu options:

• [Registry key name]. Repairs the  selected  key. This option will display only if a specific key name is selected; when a group is selected, this menu option does not display.

• Selected (X problems). Repairs all checked problems.

• All problems. Repairs all problems.

 

You can also repair:

• Individual problems: Right-click on an individual registry key and then select Repair problem.

• A group of problems: Click the Repair Group link or select a group row and choose Selected from the Repair menu.

Note that problems in the "Invalid COM References: "[File Name]" groups are linked and cannot be repaired individually. To repair these errors, follow the instructions above for repairing a group of problems.

Registry Editor changes (Expert Mode Only)

Expert users can make changes in the Registry Editor.

Only manually edit the registry if you know what you are doing; making inaccurate modifications can severely damage your computer.

1. Make sure you are in Expert mode (click Expert Mode from the Tools menu).

2. Either:

3. Right-click on the desired item and then select Open location in Regedit; or

4. Click the Options link and then click Open item location in Regedit.

Exclude Problems (Expert Mode Only)

In Expert mode, you can designate a registry error to be excluded from later runs of this wizard.

1. Make sure you are in Expert mode (click Expert Mode from the Tools menu).

2. Right-click on the desired item and then select Exclude from future searches.

3. The Edit Exclusions window opens.

4. After making any changes, click OK to save.

Find Additional Repair Options

To find additional repair options, from the Tools menu, click Search for all possible repair options.

 

A progress window will display as System Mechanic is searching for alternate repair suggestions. The screen will redisplay when the process is completed.
