iolo technologies Announces Newest Release of System Mechanic® Software Line

December 15, 2006—iolo technologies today announced the release of version 7 of its award-winning System Mechanic utility software. System Mechanic secures, optimizes, repairs, and maintains Windows-based PCs to keep them running fast, safe, and free of problems. System Mechanic Professional is a suite of products that includes System Mechanic plus four other built-in programs, providing a complete solution to Internet security and PC maintenance. Both System Mechanic 7 and System Mechanic 7 Professional are compatible with the new Windows® Vista® operating system and are scheduled to arrive at stores in early December.

The System Mechanic product line, which boasts almost 3 million active users, is designed to breathe new life into old computers and keep new ones running as they should. Over time, system clutter, speed and performance drains, insufficient security protection, and corrupted settings can all degrade a computer’s operation. Some problems that commonly arise from regular computer and Internet usage include:

  • Unneeded programs and useless files slowing processing and wasting valuable drive space.
  • Dangerous spyware and other hidden files changing system settings and corrupting the system.
  • Security vulnerabilities in operating systems and browsers leaving the PC vulnerable to attack.
  • Unoptimized settings slowing Web download and access rates, and causing sluggish startups.
  • Fragmented drives, damaged drives, and splintered memory causing lockups and overburdening Windows.
  • Invalid and obsolete registry references leading to perplexing error messages and system crashes.

Rather than purchasing dozens of individual utility products, System Mechanic can be used to remedy all of these issues and more. Over thirty tools and wizards work together to diagnose system operations, optimize settings, repair problems, clean out clutter, and protect against Internet threats. The popular “Total Solutions” incorporate all the essential repairs and optimizations into one easy-to-use tool. The analysis and diagnostic capabilities not only keep users informed of the condition of their PC, but are used to generate specific repair and improvement recommendations that are tailored to the PC’s needs.

Version 7 of System Mechanic includes many new and innovative features designed to enhance PC repairs and maintenance. iolo’s Director of Product Management, Faisal Habib, said, “We’ve created a unique product that can be used by beginners and experts alike. Our redesigned, user-friendly interface runs tools manually or automatically, to fit the user’s experience level. One exciting example is our new ActiveCare technology that monitors PC performance behind the scenes, and then instantly runs any needed repairs on-the-spot, all without user intervention. This technology is ground-breaking because it is proactive, intelligent, and completely unobtrusive.”

In addition to the housekeeping maintenance of ActiveCare™, another new feature users will find invaluable is the Problem Task List. This informative listing allows users to easily manage any problems, and gives them total control over running repairs. Another novel feature is IntelliStatus™, which provides real-time statistics for those key system components that impact performance, allowing for robust performance-tracking. And users will benefit from the simplified interface that provides intuitive categories and fast access to all of System Mechanic’s optimization, repair, security, and monitoring tools.

System Mechanic 7 Professional
The System Mechanic 7 Professional suite provides total system protection and optimization by incorporating five complete products into one integrated package: System Mechanic 7, plus iolo AntiVirus, iolo Personal Firewall, Search and Recover 4, and DriveScrubber 3. All components of the Professional suite have new and enhanced features.

  • For version 7, iolo developed two new Internet security solutions: iolo AntiVirus™ shields PCs from viruses and other Internet threats, and iolo Personal Firewall™ controls incoming and outgoing communication to keep information safe from hackers and identity thieves. These products replace the previously bundled third party software, and include innovations such as IntelliDefense®, which makes informed decisions so that users see fewer messages, and guided wizards that eliminate complicated setup. iolo AntiVirus and iolo Personal Firewall, both West Coast Labs-certified, are slated to arrive in stores as stand-alone products in late December.
  • The award-winning Search and Recover™ 4 is a data recovery tool that recovers lost or deleted files, documents, pictures, music, and more, from computer drives, digital cameras, MP3 players, USB drives, and virtually any portable media. New features include the TotalRecovery™ wizard, which automatically recovers and saves data for an entire drive, and the new SmartScan™ technology that avoids irrelevant junk files, speeding and simplifying data recovery.
  • iolo’s popular product DriveScrubber® 3 permanently and securely wipes away data from drives, to prevent confidential information from falling into the wrong hands when selling or donating a computer. In addition to thoroughly erasing all drive contents, DriveScrubber 3 can now also wipe only the free space of a drive, to delete the remnants of deleted files. With this process, existing files, programs, and the operating system are all left in intact, but any deleted files are unrecoverable. In addition to preparing a computer for sale or donation, this feature allows DriveScrubber to be used for regular security maintenance.

iolo’s CEO, Noah Rowles, had this to say about the new release: “I am very excited about the new version 7 of our flagship System Mechanic line. It is a culmination of years of research, customer feedback, and our industry experience. The System Mechanic development team at iolo strongly believes in this product and what we feel is a revolutionary approach to computer optimization, maintenance, and security. Since inception, System Mechanic has established itself as the leader in quality, innovation, and progressive design. This new version takes a significant step forward in many ways, and I am confident our customers will appreciate the diligent effort we’ve made to make System Mechanic even better than ever.”

System Mechanic 7 and System Mechanic 7 Professional support Windows Vista, XP, 2000, Me, and 98. System Mechanic 7 retails for $49.95 ($29.95 for upgrades) and System Mechanic 7 Professional retails for $69.95 ($39.95 for upgrades). Both products can be used on up to 3 PCs.
