How to Opt Out of LexisNexis

To opt out of LexisNexis, submit a consumer data request through their official opt-out portal at optout.lexisnexis.com. LexisNexis is one of the largest data brokers in the world: a major business-to-business provider of consumer data, legal records, and risk assessment profiles used by employers, landlords, insurers, and financial institutions.

What Makes LexisNexis Different

Unlike consumer-facing people search sites like Spokeo or WhitePages, LexisNexis operates primarily in the B2B space. Their data is used for background checks, insurance underwriting, tenant screening, and fraud detection. This means your LexisNexis profile may directly influence decisions about your credit, insurance rates, employment, and housing, often without your knowledge.

LexisNexis is regulated under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), which gives you specific legal rights to access and dispute your consumer file.

How to Opt Out of LexisNexis: Step by Step

  • Go to the LexisNexis opt-out page. Visit optout.lexisnexis.com. This is the official consumer data portal.
  • Request your personal data report. Before opting out, you have the right under the FCRA to request a free copy of your consumer disclosure report. This shows what data LexisNexis holds about you.
  • Complete identity verification. LexisNexis requires thorough identity verification: typically your full name, date of birth, Social Security Number (last 4 digits), current and previous addresses, and a copy of a government-issued ID.
  • Submit your opt-out or suppression request. Follow the prompts to request that your data be suppressed from future reports. Note that LexisNexis uses the term “suppression” rather than “deletion” — they may retain certain records required by law.
  • Wait for processing. LexisNexis opt out requests typically take 5–10 business days to process, though complex cases may take longer.
  • Follow up if needed. If you don’t receive confirmation within 2 weeks, contact LexisNexis consumer support directly.

What LexisNexis Opt Out Does and Doesn’t Do

Opting out of LexisNexis suppresses your data from their consumer-facing reports, but there are limits. LexisNexis may retain records required for legal compliance, fraud prevention, or ongoing law enforcement requests. Their business data products (used by attorneys and corporate clients) may have separate databases with different opt-out processes.

Because LexisNexis is FCRA-regulated, you also have the right to dispute inaccurate information in your file: a stronger tool than a simple opt-out. If you find errors, file a formal dispute through the same portal.

Your data can also reappear. LexisNexis refreshes its databases from public records, court filings, and partner data continuously. A suppression applies to your current record but doesn’t block future data matching. Learn why data reappears after removal →
