How to Optimize a PC

If your PC is running much slower than usual, it might be time to optimize your computer. Are apps, like Microsoft Word not loading as fast as they used to, or are your video games not loading at all? This is a sign that your PC’s performance is decreasing, a major pitfall that occurs with time, or depending on how much you have downloaded and installed. Good system responsiveness can make using your PC a dream come true, but, when the reverse is true, using your computer can be more like a nightmare – frustrating, disruptive, and, occasionally, expensive. The more your PC freezes, crashes, or overheats, you’ll receive quite a costly electricity bill. Nevertheless, don’t panic! And don’t rush into spending hundreds on a PC repair service. There are many ways you can optimize your PC right now, all with the help of iolo’s expert System Mechanic® tool, which we will explore in detail below.

How to Optimize a PC with iolo's System Mechanic

Rather than doing all of the legwork yourself, iolo’s PC Optimizer, System Mechanic is designed to be an expert at cleaning, repairing, and speeding up your PC with the mere click of a button. For example, performance issues are automatically scanned and fixed! This could include the deletion of your browser history, junk files, and cookies – all of which represent pockets of data that easily pile up over time, causing your PC to run slowly and overheat. More specifically, iolo’s System Mechanic can also remove bloatware.

However, you might have a few questions, like: what exactly is bloatware, and how does it impact my PC’s performance? In short terms, bloatware is software that is pre-installed on your PC by the manufacturer. Bloatware could include trial antivirus programs or productivity suites favored by a manufacturer, and indeed could also include promotional software or manufacturer-specific apps that you simply do not need! Even multimedia applications count as bloatware because, if you don’t use them, then they are draining the life out of your valuable system resources – the CPU and memory space of your PC included.

Fortunately, iolo’s System Mechanic can determine what you need and what you don’t, which relieves much of the stress of optimizing your PC alone. Without the efficient help of a System Mechanic tool, you could be floundering for hours over what to keep and what to get rid of! Better yet, iolo’s System Mechanic® optimizes your processing power and frees up memory as a result and can also help secure open ports and connected home devices by patching Windows’ security vulnerabilities and safely wiping sensitive browser history.

The biggest benefit of iolo’s System Mechanic for the average PC user will be, without doubt, the faster internet speed unleashed after optimization. What can better internet speed get you, you ask? You could benefit from:

  • Faster Downloads
  • Snappier Page Loads
  • Less Buffering for Videos
  • Better Streaming and Gaming

Of course, whilst clicking the ‘on’ button to get iolo’s System Mechanic software up-and-running is extremely convenient, there are a few things you can do to optimize your PC alongside the Mechanic tool. It’s easy to clean up your disk space by uninstalling apps you know you don’t use, and always make sure to update your PC when the reminder pops up!

Rather than overtaxing your PC with thousands of downloads, also consider backing up your data onto an external hard drive, or network services like the Cloud. This greatly reduces the burden on your PC, and you’ll notice a difference right away!

Why Optimize Your PC At All?

If your PC is a little slow, but, at the end of the day, seems to be operating fine for your needs, we’re not surprised that you might be asking yourself ‘why should I optimize my PC at all?’ This is a reasonable question to ask! After all, iolo’s System Mechanic® tool is still an investment, however affordable it might be, and, when it comes to issues like bloatware and inefficient driver updaters, you might not think that these features really impact your PC experience in general.

Unfortunately, countless PC users don’t realize how inefficient their current PC is. That is, until they try out a new top-of-the-line Windows PC unencumbered by heavy downloads and data, or they experience the wonders of an optimized PC first-hand! Even if your PC only crashes every once in a while, the frustration this generates can be severe, and you can waste up to 1/3-1/2 of the time spent on your PC. Bearing this in mind, here are some inarguable reasons why you should bother optimizing your PC at all:

  1. The Cost Savings
When your old PC performs as well as something new, there’s no rush to purchase the latest computer to the detriment of your bank account! Optimization saves you thousands in the long run, particularly when it comes to prolonging the life of your current PC. You can delay the need for expensive hardware upgrades by years, and by making your computer systems more energy efficient as a result of optimization, you can also reduce your actual household bills – as we’ve briefly touched on before! Wave goodbye to a surprising electricity bill, and hello to the improved speed and stability of your computer.
  2. Improved Security
The best part about an optimized PC isn’t just the speed or performance, though these are undeniable benefits, but the improved security you’ll receive when browsing or downloading things online. With the in-built antivirus properties of iolo’s System Mechanic®, you’re defended against malware and malicious cyberattacks whenever you surf the internet. Vulnerabilities in your PC are also less likely to be exploited if your PC is as up-to-date as it can get regarding your operating system, software, and drivers specifically. With the System Mechanic Ultimate Defense® tool, PC users can also enjoy configurable privacy settings and password management, which means you can hand-select which companies can collect your personal data, and your passwords will be well-secured wherever you browse.
  3. The Degree of Customization
Indeed, part of the reason why you should consider optimizing your PC is because of the degree of customization you can receive as a result. Optimization allows you to fine-tune the details of the tiniest settings and install software that may enhance your computing experience. Perhaps you’d like to boost your graphics settings or allocate more resources to running your video games! For office work, you can also opt to balance performance and power efficiency to ensure you can get as much work done as possible. If you’re concerned about your PC’s battery life, optimization even allows you to reduce power usage when your PC is idle. Some of our favorite ways to customize your PC through optimization include controlling app permissions and browser settings, personalizing your user interface with custom shortcuts, and opting for software that enhances your work or hobbies. For example, if you’re employed as a creative, why not download some optimized software for graphic design and video editing? There’s so much you can do when you know your PC’s performance is top-notch.
